With the onset of legalization of Cannabis in Canada, there remains continuous stigma and lack of consumer education surrounding cannabis use nation-wide.

Featured is PATIO’s augmented reality cannabis education tool, where guests can scan a brand logo and explore the different strains catered to each user based on mood, activity or lineage. This was created for CannTrust’s launch of their recereational brands: Liiv, Synr.g and Xscape. 

The Challenge

  • Visually communicate liiv, Synr.g and Xscape’s brand messaging in an innovative, exciting and engaging way while skirting strict regulations
  • Demonstrate the quality of of the bud and get consumers excited about the products despite not being able to have either physically present
  • Appeal to new cannabis users, non users as well as experienced users
  • Create something unique that has the potential to drive media coverage

Our Approach

Using photogrammetry techniques and our proprietary scanning rig, we are able to scan dried cannabis buds on location and turn them into digital 3D models in post-production.

We then created a visual language system through augmented reality to educate and provide consumers with at-a-glance information about each strain. With such high competition in the cannabis space as well as strict regulations in marketing & advertising, the approach needed to skirt the rules while still meeting communication goals.

With this Augmented Reality app, users can scan one of the brand logos using a mobile device and explore the different strains catered to each consumer based on mood, activity or lineage of choice. 

This engagement’s success at events has thus led to the development of a full product catalogue sales/retail app.
